Indexing forms an important part of journal publishing to ensure content is widely disseminated and that it is included in subject specific databases as well as library catalogues, right across the globe. Additionally, considering the landscape of some questionable publishing practices, indexing is also providing higher levels of trust and, in some cases, for right or wrong reasons, even prestige. However, understanding the landscape of journal indexing is complex and technical. In this session our invited speakers, ranging from an indexing service, a university press and a research library, will discuss what decisions are made when thinking about what index to be included in, what is needed for indexing, how to prepare a journal for indexing and then how to get indexed, as well as some considerations made by librarians about how they connect patrons to journal content and how index databases are used by researchers. An open audience Q&A will follow the presentations.
