Many presses rely on interns to support our day-to-day operations. Especially when this labor is unpaid, we want our internships to offer value by contributing to the personal and professional development of the people who may someday fill our shoes. Still, we must acknowledge unpaid internships effectively exclude those who cannot afford to work without a paycheck. As AUP members, how can we ensure our internships uphold the community's values of promoting diversity and equity? This informational session will discuss the role interns play in university presses, recent developments in the landscape of UP internship programs, and how a press can design (and perhaps fund) a more valuable internship.
