This session focuses on a cross-organizational career development program designed to address equity issues endemic to academic publishing. "Advancing HBCU Scholarship, Diversifying Digital Publishing," supported by a generous grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, is a three-year training program for HBCU library professionals seeking to gain or expand expertise in developing born-digital scholarship in the humanities. This first-of-its-kind partnership between a predominantly white R1 university library, a consortium of HBCU libraries, and a leading university press presents a model for enhanced support for HBCU staff, faculty, and students to enrich and expand scholarly discourse through their contributions. This collaborative approach to born-digital publishing, led by Brown University Digital Publications and the University of Michigan Press, is developing capacity at libraries at Fisk University, Kentucky State University, and Prairie View A&M University. A multi-pronged intervention, the program is focused on advancing outstanding scholarship that, without developmental investment and enhanced visibility, might not attain maximum reach and impact. The session will address the program goals, progress, and lessons learned thus far.
