More and more university presses, nonprofit publishers, and platforms are leading the charge towards more open access by embracing Subscribe to Open (S2O). S2O, in its originally intended deployment, is an inclusive and equitable open access model that enables scholarly subscription journals to open access to their current year's issues without Article Processing Charges (APCs). Publishers like Annual Reviews and EDP Sciences have already successfully opened current journal content, and platforms like Project MUSE and BioOne are preparing to launch their offerings in 2025 and 2026 respectively. Beyond S2O offers, there is also an S2O Community of Practice that has brought together not only the practitioners of S2O but many other involved groups including funders, authors, and editors to encourage equitable collaboration. In this panel discussion, we will go beyond an introduction to Subscribe to Open to focus on the equity of the model and practical applications. We will talk about the future of the S2O model, its sustainability, and how it might be reimagined and expanded to include even more journals. Speakers from university presses, libraries, and funders will come together for a unified discussion. Audience members will leave the discussion with a deeper understanding of how the S2O model has evolved and the opportunities and challenges for all those in the scholarly communication ecosystem. Come with your questions, concerns, predictions, and ideas!
